About EMC2

Who we are...

EMC2 (“EMC-squared”), stands for Excellence in Media Computing and Communication.

It is a not-for-profit European Competence Centre founded in 2010 with the main objective of providing services for technology entrepreneurship by bringing together stakeholders in the Media Computing and Communication (MC2) fields with focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Currently, the centre is fully backed by a core consortium of world-class institutions and it cooperates and draws technology from large EU funded projects.

What we do...

EMC2 promotes the entrepreneurial spirit within academia, research centres and individuals with the goal of facilitating start-ups take off and transfer of cutting-edge technology from research labs to the market place. With its associated members, EMC2 provides mentoring for start-ups, it provides technical infrastructure to enable quick response to market challenges and opportunities and it coaches web entrepreneurs in the MC2 fields.

Specifically by working with incubators accelerators and startup associations, EMC2 facilitates partnerships between SMEs, large companies, Universities and research institutions. The core objective is to translate research into products, identify commercialization opportunities and enhance SMEs innovation potential.

How we do it...

Central to our strategy is the formation of the EMC2 Network, a broad network of stakeholders in the MC2 field, including Universities and research institutes, major industry players, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and individuals from research, industry and the general public.

We provide to the Network a series of services which are the means to realize our vision and achieve self-sustainability. Services are offered in three packages:

EMC2 is funded under the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), ICT Call 7, Challenge 1: Pervasive and Trusted Network and Service Infrastructures, Objective 1.5: Networked Media and Search Systems.
